Presentations
Document store for presentations
A lot of schools use the VLE as a Content Management System – a CMS. It is a place to store and manage documents and make them available in an organised way.
It is often the case that in a subject department one of the teachers is a specialist in a particular area and their introductory classes to a module may be exemplary. It is wortwhile in these cases to keep the presentations so that students can go back to them later or so that other teachers can use the presentation when they need to launch the project.
The presentations do not need to be limited to PowerPoint or its Open Office equivalent. For classes equiped with Smartboard software there is the capacity to record everything that is projected using a data projector. The movies are saved in .avi format and can easily be displayed. A have put an example here. The quality of the example is poor as it was altered for use on a website but the original is as good as was experienced during the original event.
Recording lessons created on the Whiteboard is particularly useful for primary schools and Miles Berry has discussed this a greater length and more eloquently here.
