Forums

The forum uses an  asynchronous approach to collaboration. Students read past postings and respond to them.

 

Chat Rooms

They can work well but most schools turn off this facility. There are times when it is useful, if a class member is absent travelling, long term sick or convalescing. They can be brought back into the class room and take part in the discussions. They allow real time decision making but unless they are turned off after a specific time students access them from other lesson and you become very unpopular.

Online Whiteboards

Useful for brainstorming, visual and design based projects.

Webcams

useful for Science and Art, the webcam is used to show a technique or experiment, Vivarium etc where all of the students can’t get a good view.
