Blended Learning
Blended learning represents the most popular and wide spread use of a VLE/LMS, it consists of mixing together traditional classroom techniques and experiences with electronic resources which widen the experience.
The screenshot above is from a ‘Blended Learning’ section on a VLE (Moodle)
The material is based on a textbook which is used in class.
- The Greyed out sections only the teacher can open and they have the SOW and Lesson Plans.
- The powerpoint is shown with the data projector and clarifies some points from the textbook, a whole class activity.
- There are a number of Websites and Animated examples available if the students have access to computers in class.
- There are materials for revision and the homework is also visible for students to access out of hours.
- At the end of the Module there is a test, the results are captured automatically and help analyse student progress.
On average a student will do 30 minutes on the VLE for every two hours of lesson time, per subject. It is not only the bright, keen students who do this, students who do not want to be seen to be trying in class (AKA boys) will go on the VLE out-of-hours to familiarise themselves with material ahead of classes so that they appear effortlessly clever.
