Moodle Progress bar

There are two useful and slightly different progress bars that have become available in the last few weeks. The first and simplest is to be found at http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&mode=single&page=373 This is used as a block within a course and can be modified to list Resources that have been accessed and Assignments that have been submitted. This allows the teacher to say which resources – tutorials, help sheets etc need to be viewed before an assignment is attempted. It also allows the students to know where they are in the course. The slight drawback is that if an assignment is posted it is flagged as complete, whereas the teacher may well of referred it back to the student for more work to be completed. This is particularly useful for teachers for EDEXCELs DiDA and OCRs Nationals, It is possible to track which resources are seen as useful (and to what extent students are helping themselves before putting their hand up) and also it helps student to see what units they have still got to do. This is useful if you are encouraging independent learning and using the LMS for out of hours access.

The second progress bar is more ambitious in its aims. http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?rid=1659&page=372It shows on the front page of Moodle when a student logs on and shows their progress in all courses that use the ‘Pass, Merit, Distinction’ grade criteria. I am setting this up at the moment so more information to follow.
