Towards ‘Outstanding, Wigmore High School, Leominster
Reports here http://moodlexchange.com/?p=338#more-338
Wigmore is a small school of 450 students that has a specialism in ICT and Maths. The students begin life at Wigmore about average in ability but make rapid progress in KS3, by the end of year 11 all have got at least a grade C in ICT and two thirds have an A or A*
Towards ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED – Charles Read Grantham
Charles Read was classed as ‘Outstanding’ in its last ICT subject inspection. What is it that they do that could help other schools improve their game? Well it certainly isn’t an above average intake.
OFSTED ICT Subject inspections
What is it that OFSTED characterises as a ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ in an ICT department, when it visits?. Looking at existing reports – these are from the last three years – it is possible to see in advance what sort of things they are likely to pounce on as unsatisfactory and what they are likely to praise.
automatic weather station
Unit 8 Public Information System presents a problem to a lot of UK schools, because of the need to have
authentic weather station data. The cost of the equipment is the small part compared to installing and configuring the software and maintaining the data flow. In addition there are uses for live and historic weather data in Maths, Humanities and Science, so you might want to tell colleagues that the resource is available for them to use.
I have set up a weather station at http://www.moodlexchange.com/weather/weather.htm . This is freely available to schools, also available from the page is a weather text file that can be imported into a spreadsheet plus a tutorial on its use. In addition the images from the weather station output and the weathercam can be inserted into a webpage and they will update every minute
(the images can be inserted into powerpoint but they do not update)
There are additional resources on the page and I will add more over time.
An FGS Student:Result for a survey of ‘Out of School use of ICT’
A typical student from FGS owns a laptop1 and spends four hours a night on their computer during the week. They are skilled at multi-tasking and have MSN or Windows 2 live running with conversations with a number of their friends. They will also have Facebook running at the same time and they will be using the instant messenger aspect of it as well as adding comments on their friend’s sites.
Adobe.com- challenging Google docs
WWW.adobe.com joins https://www.photoshop.com/express as part of a developing stable of online apps that are clearly intended to challenge Google docs for its crown. The platform is based on Flash rather than Ajax and is a much more sophisticated experience than Googles offering. Read the story »
